Weekend Recap

Our weekend started out with a wedding. I know what you are thinking: "a wedding on Independence Day?", but this is a second marriage for both of them. They each have 3 grown children, they have been having a long distance relationship and this was a convenient day/time for all involved. It was a very intimate, private wedding. It was very lovely too! The wedding was at 10:30 on Friday morning, there was a brunch type reception afterward and then we all helped cleaned up and went about our merry way. Very nice event.

After that we headed home for a quick nap, then we went to a friend's house for a BBQ. They do this every year (at least they have for the last 8 years or so), there are several homes on the block that all participate. They all set up tables in the street with lots of food and goodies. People everywhere, you don't know who belongs to what house or what family. It is a lot of fun. There are volleyball nets set up, kids everywhere, food of course, but my all time favorite is what is in our friend's backyard. He owns a business called White Birds Unlimited so in his backyard is a huge "house" for the birds. He trains his birds so that they can be released at weddings, funerals or other events and they return home. These birds are actually homing pigeons. They are so pretty and so interesting. I am fascinated by them. I love to wander around the "bird house" and watch them, listen to them, admire them.

These birds actually have a more deeper, more significant meaning to me, because after we delivered our stillborn baby 5 years ago our friend asked us if we wanted him to help us do a bird release in our baby's honor. It was so special --Mr. Man and I released one bird together (symbolic of releasing Wesley), then our friend let Spirit and Lefty each release a bird also. We stood by Wesley's name plaque as we did the release. Then we watched as the 3 birds sort of circled together above us before heading home. It still brings tears to my eyes as I think of that day.

But, let me get back to our weekend recap: we hung out at the "bird man's" house (as he is affectionately called by my children) and watched fireworks which put us home about 11:30 pm. The kids had so much fun and that is what it is all about, isn't it? creating memories for them??

Saturday we cleaned and worked in the yard. Pretty unexciting and uneventful!

Sunday was exciting though because my SIL came from Missouri to visit us. She had to head back home this morning, but we were thankful for the day we got to be with her. The boys were in rare form and were not on their best behavior, so she was probably thankful to have to head home today!!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
