Radio for the oldies

There is a local radio station that has been around for as long as I can remember. When I was in elementary school I can remember this station being my dad's favorite station because it played "the oldies". At that time it was songs from the 50's.

Now-a-days, I have my radio stations pre-set in the car and at home to my favorite stations (none of which include Oldies!). This morning, though, as I was driving in to work all of my pre-set stations just had DJ's talking about this and that, politics or whatever. I wanted music and not talking so I pushed the "seek" button on radio and the next station it found was playing music. It was really, really, good music too -- it was Def Leppard! I was so excited. I started singing and dancing in my seat and life was good.

Then the song ended and I heard the DJ say "That was Def Leppard here on Denver's heritage radio station. Where we play your favorite oldies!"

Since when is Def Leppard an oldie? I guess the bigger question is when did my favorite high school songs get old enough to be on the oldies station?? Sheesh. What does that make me? old? Nah, because it was just yesterday I was getting ready for the 9th grade dance listening to Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me" song.

tragic, isn't it? Occasionally we will peruse an oldies station for fun. we were, once, jamming out to the mamas and the papas (or is it Papas and mamas???) and then Madonna came on. I cried.

Girl - we have had this happen twice just recently. We were listening to Country Gold Saturday night in the car one night and they were playing some O-L-D songs and the kids were laughing as we joked about the songs, etc. Next thing we know they played one of my husband's and mine favorite song from high school. The laughing immediately stopped!!!

Then another time was like you're saying - we found a really good rock out, jammin' song and when it was over they announced it was some "hits of yester-year" station. We were crushed. Then we cried. Then we shopped for Depends.

Ha! Well, at least you were only in 9th grade. I was in college when this song was popular!
