Biscuits and Rolls for your holiday gathering or for any ol' meal!
The biscuit recipe I got from my sister years ago and the roll recipe is my MIL's recipe (my husband's favorite rolls!)
Basic Biscuits
INGREDIENTS:
2 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 c shortening
3/4 c milk
Stir flour, powder and salt together with fork. Cut in shortening. Add milk and stir. Knead dough on a floured board 10 times. Roll out about 1/2" thick. Cut with glass (do not twist). Bake 10-12 minutes at 425 degrees.
Dinner Rolls
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c oil
1 c milk, hot
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp salt
2 pkg yeast (I like to use Rapid Rise yeast)
1 c warm water
Approximately 7 c flour
Mix sugar and oil together in a bowl. Add milk to sugar mixture and stir well. Add egg and salt to sugar mixture. Mix yeast with water and stir until dissolved. Add yeast/water to bowl and stir well. Add flour, 1 c at a time until desired consistency. Let rise to doubled in size.
Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.

Thanks for stopping by my open letter and giving the boobies some well needed support.. if in spirit only:-)
Next cup of coffee is on me.. as long as you promise not to spit it out your nose.. eewww HA! glad I made ya laugh. Thanks to SITS for the idea eh?
I'm also gonna go to town on these rolls! Bridgeford's be damed!!
hot milk??? do you put it in the microwave?? please let me know, as I would LOVE to try to make these!
La Pixie - Yes, I put it in the microwave for .. oh 30 seconds to a minute. It shouldn't be scalding hot, but on the warm to warmer side! Does that make sense?
I have to make a confession. I live in the South...I mean the Deep South...as in Alabama "we will rise again" South. And I bake...alot. And, dare I say I am a great baker. Except for biscuits....no matter what I do or what recipe I try they always come out "not quite right." I shouldn't even type this for fear that I may be excommunicated to somewhere like New Jersey or Connecticut. My secret...Ms. B's Biscuits in the frozen foods section...they are a GodSend!
I royally stink at making biscuits. I think I work it too hard or something??
And yeast rolls? I could die just thinking about them. Mmmmmmm...
Yummy!! (can you see the pics now?)
Sounds delicious! I don't think I've ever made rolls from scratch!?
Perfect, thanks for the recipes!! :)
